House of Blues: Inside The Exciting World of Denim

A Conversation With FRAME Denim CEO Josh LeVine

Register  (Online registration closes September 8th at 2 p.m.)

Blue jeans have been around for a century and a half. How do you make them a cutting-edge fashion statement?

That’s exactly what Josh LeVine and his team at FRAME Denim have managed to do. The Culver City-based company has combined fashion-forward styling with the look and comfort of denim to create a contemporary lifestyle brand for men and women that is a favorite with shoppers at upscale stores, boutiques and online fashion portals.

At our September 9th meeting, Mr. LeVine, Co-Founder and CEO of FRAME Denim, will explain the Culver City-based company’s successful strategy in a conversation with the company’s attorney, Katy Spillers, a Partner with the Greenberg Glusker law firm.

Mr. LeVine co-founded FRAME late in 2011 with partners Jens Grede and Erik Torstensson, founders of Saturday Group, and Nico Peyrache, former Vice President of Denim at Lucky Brand Jeans, just nine years after graduating from UC Santa Barbara with a degree in fine arts.

In the interim he founded and ran the Davi Luxury Brand Group, in Beverly Hills, joined Lucky Brand Jeans as Director of Creative Services, then, with partners Grede and Torstensson, established Saturday Brands, a brand development company with offices in Los Angeles, London and New York.

The discussion between Mr. LeVine and Ms. Spillers will provide valuable insight into California’s multi-billion-dollar apparel industry, which has faced a variety of challenges this year.

Skittish consumers were clutching their wallets tightly for most of the first quarter. Raw materials and merchandise languished on container ships early in the year because of a labor dispute at the Los Angeles and Long Beach ports. Market leaders like Quiksilver, American Apparel and Levi Strauss all have been grappling with slowdowns in sales and other issues. Even the drought has caused problems in manufacturing and processing of textiles.

Fortunately, consumer spending on apparel and other merchandise is rebounding. Retail sales are so strong that the demand for new stores is up by 80%, according to one major broker.

Come hear how this market-savvy executive sees the outlook for the apparel industry at the September 9 meeting of ACG 101.

Ying Yang, Vice President of Business Development for the Western Region of CIT Commercial Services, will provide an overview of the local and global trends and issues that affect California’s apparel industry.

Ying’s responsibilities include sourcing and closing factoring and asset based lending deals.

Since joining CIT in 2003 she has overseen financing transactions in the apparel, footwear, accessories, textile, furniture, home furnishing, consumer electronics and housewares industries.

Registration online is $35 for ACG Members, $65 for non-members. Registration at the door, if available, is $15 additional.
