ACG Boston's 3rd Annual ACG Cup Case Competition!

Round 1: Thursday, February 10, 2011
Round 2 Finals: Thursday, February 24, 2011

The Boston chapter of the Association for Corporate Growth is proud to host the 2011 Boston ACG Cup Case Competition!  This is the third year ACG Boston will be bringing the nation-wide competition to local Boston business schools.  The competition, which began in Los Angeles, is now held at over 50 business schools throughout the nation.

The ACG Cup is an annual mergers and acquisitions case study competition designed to give students from leading MBA programs real world experience and invaluable insights into mergers and acquisitions, investment banking, and financial advisory services.  Each case study provides students with a unique opportunity to present valuation, capital markets and M&A strategic advice to a panel of senior private equity and investment banking professionals from the Boston area.

Competing teams will be drawn from six leading Boston business schools:

  • Harvard Business School
  • Tuck School of Business
  • MIT Sloan School of Management
  • Boston College Carroll School of Management
  • Boston University MBA
  • Babson College MBA

Round 1:

First round competitions will be staged at each participating MBA program.  Each school will field three to five case teams, comprised of three to five students.  Approximately one week prior to the competition date, each team will receive a case study that contains a specific potential strategic transaction (e.g., a company is approached by a potential acquirer).  Using the information provided, each team will develop a recommended course of action that they will present to the panel of judges.  One team from each school will be designated as the winner of Round 1 and will be invited to participate in the Round 2 Finals.

Round 2 Finals:

The top team from each school's first round competition will face each other in the final round of the Boston ACG Cup.  Additional information will be provided to the original case study and each team will develop an altered or new recommended course of action that they will present to the panel of judges.  Following the case presentations, one team will be announced the winner of the 2011 Boston ACG Cup Case Competition.

Cash prizes will be awarded to the top teams.  Immediately f
ollowing the Round 2 Finals, judges, all Cup participants and the ACG Boston Board of Directors are invited to a cocktail networking reception where the winners will be announced.
