Eugene Simor, President, Alamo Beer Company
Eugene Simor is one person who can truly say, “I wasn’t born in Texas, but I got here as fast as I could.” Not only did he get here, but also he wholeheartedly embraced the pride native Texans have for their homeland.
Eugene was born right in the middle of downtown Los Angeles, California. He spent his days growing up in Orange County before the days of The OC and when “there were still orange trees there.” Not yet willing to part with beautiful California, Eugene attended college at the California Polytechnic State University at San Luis Obispo. There he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Industrial Technology (part engineering, part business) and went straight to work in his area of expertise.
Eugene’s initiation into the workforce was with Johnson Controls, Inc. where he worked as a sales engineer in the Building Services Division. During that time, he received many distinctions including the National Sales Challenge Award, Consistent Performer Award, a top sales engineer in the Los Angeles office, and one of the top sales people in the nation. In need of a change, when Eugene turned 30, he left his job and set out for an adventure. He spent a year sailing around the world, visiting remote islands, and taking in their unique cultures. Upon returning to the United States, Eugene embarked on another adventure when he chose to relocate himself and move from the Los Angeles area he had called home for so long. After a lengthy search for the right city, Eugene chose San Antonio as his new home.
Upon his arrival to San Antonio in 1994, Eugene founded a company that specialized in the redevelopment of blighted buildings into profitable rental properties. Throughout the years, Eugene has also participated in countless service opportunities within the community. He is an Eagle Scout, was a United Way volunteer, past-president and charter member of the San Antonio Mission Trail Rotary Club, and was on various city government committees including the Open Space Advisory Board, the Community Development task force and the Downtown Advisory Board as well as a former board member to the Greater Chamber of Commerce. Today, Eugene continues his service as an active member of his Rotary Club.
Never satisfied with being just content, Eugene’s current entrepreneurial venture is the Alamo Beer Company. ALAMO Beer fosters a sense of pride for San Antonians and Texans alike. First available in October of 2003, the refreshing beer with its “fiercely independent spirit” will be a project that keeps Eugene fermenting for a while as sales continue to grow across the great state of Texas.
When not brewing and promoting ALAMO Beer, Eugene enjoys time with his family. The 52 year old is blessed with a smoking hot first, last, and only wife. He even married her three times (once by a judge, another time in the Catholic church, and a third time just for the party at the in-law's ranch). He celebrates the first wedding since the vows were in English and he has no idea what he agreed to in the other two weddings done in Spanish. His wife, Neriza, is tri lingual in addition to being one heck of a great mother to their four children ages 2 year, 3 1/2 years, 6 years and 8 years. It is never a dull moment at the Simor house only a mile from the brewery.
