The Modern Day Arsenal of Democracy: Winning with the Defense Industry in Michigan

The Defense, Aerospace and Homeland Security industries quietly generate more than 7B in annual revenue in the state of Michigan each year. While Detroit rightly deserves the Motown moniker as the birthplace of automotive manufacturing, numerous global, middle market and small businesses located in Metro Detroit have significant defense operations. Our area is also home to the U.S. Army TACOM Life Cycle Management Command (TACOM LCMC) and Tank Automotive Research, Development and Engineering Center (TARDEC). From its beginnings as the Army Tank Arsenal in 1940 to today when the TACOM and TARDEC facilities form the center of the modern day Arsenal of Democracy, the Defense industry has been a major part of the manufacturing base in Michigan for decades.

Please join us for an informative panel discussion of area business leaders with defense experience. We will also learn about the rich history of the Tank Arsenal and its evolution into a modern day research center. After the presentation and continental breakfast, we will be treated to a guided tour of the facility to see the exciting vehicle and weapons testing and research work being done by TACOM.

Short presentation by TACOM and a panel presentation.

Major General Gwen Bingham will give opening remarks. Randy Talbot, TACOM LCMC Command Historian, will give us an overview of the facility and what they do.
