ACG Public Policy Update:
The Voice of the Middle Market
 
 
Join representatives of ACG, the "Voice of the Middle Market," for an update and briefing on ACG's public policy initiative on Thursday, March 24th at 8 AM. ACG members and ACG Global leaders from around the country will discuss legislative and regulatory policies impacting middle-market companies, investors and advisors.
 
Recent data clearly shows that middle market remains a vital segment of the U.S. economy and primary driver of job growth and sales nationwide. Indianapolis itself has nearly 1,000 middle-market firms, representing 306,000 jobs and 38 billion in sales.1

The panel will address a range of issues, including:
  1. Overview of  ACG's federal advocacy efforts on behalf of the middle market
  2. Legislative and regulatory activity impacting investors and middle market companies
  3. ACG member involvement on Capitol Hill and with key regulators
  4. Public policy resources for ACG members

Gretchen Perkins, Partner of Huron Capital Partners and ACG Global Board Member 
Gretchen received a B.B.A. from the University of Michigan.
Gretchen is a Director at Large - Association for Corporate Growth, Inc. Global Board of Directors, a Director for the Detroit Chapter of the Association for Corporate Growth (ACG), the Co-Chair of the ACG's Public Policy Committee, a Board Member for the Michigan Chapter of the International Women's Insolvency & Restructuring Confederation, a Board Member for United Cerebral Palsy of Detroit, and a Mentor for the Women of Tomorrow organization which mentors at-risk high school girls.
Gretchen is also responsible for managing Huron's business development and investment sourcing activities, including outreach to deal professionals such as business brokers, investment banks, attorneys, accountants and consultants. Gretchen has over 25 years' experience in the finance and business development sectors serving a variety of capital market participants. Prior to joining Huron, Gretchen led the acquisition sourcing efforts at Long Point Capital, a middle market private equity fund. Gretchen also served as Vice President - Business Development for IRN, Inc., a market research firm, and has held senior business development positions at Fleet Capital Corporation and GE Capital Corporation, where she originated and structured senior debt packages for buyouts of middle-market companies.


 
Amber Landis, Vice President, Public Policy of ACG Global
Amber Landis joined ACG in March 2013 and serves as vice president of public policy. Landis oversees ACG's day-to-day public policy program, advocating before Congress and the U.S. Securities & Exchange Commission. She also manages ACG's Private Equity Regulatory Task Force, a group of middle-market private equity chief compliance and financial officers who come together to address concerns about regulatory and compliance issues. Previously, Landis worked in the Washington, D.C. office of Fortune 200 manufacturer Whirlpool Corp., advocating before Congress on issues such as tax and international trade, and managing the company's political action committee and grassroots efforts. Landis has also served as manager of public affairs for TenCate USA, a multinational defense and textiles technology group based in the Netherlands. She opened the company's first government relations office in Washington, D.C., overseeing all public affairs activities, including lobbying, public relations and the establishment of a PAC. Landis also previously worked at a retail trade association representing some of the largest retailers in the world, including Wal-Mart Stores Inc. and Home Depot Inc., on international trade and labor-related issues.Landis was recently named one of The Most Influential Women in Mid-Market M&A by Mergers & Acquisitions Journal. Landis holds a Bachelor's of Science in Business Management from Grand Valley State University.


 
Julianne S. Lis-Milam, Partner, General Counsel and Chief Compliance Officer of Hammond Kennedy & Whitney Company, Inc.
Julianne Lis-Milam is a Partner, General Counsel and Chief Compliance Officer of Hammond, Kennedy, Whitney & Company, Inc. (HKW), a sponsor of private funds with its principal office in Indianapolis, Indiana. These private funds invest in lower middle-market companies involving change in control transactions that generally have EBITDA between 5MM and 30MM and revenues between 20MM and 200MM. Prior to joining HKW in 2000, Julianne was a Partner with the law firm of Sommer Barnard (now known as Taft Stettinius & Hollister), practicing in mergers/acquisitions and secured lending. Ms. Lis-Milam received a BA from Wayne State University, a MPA from the Indiana University School of Public and Environmental Affairs, and her JD from the Indiana University School of Law. Julianne is a member of the Indiana, Indianapolis and American bar associations, the Association of Corporate Counsel, and the National Society of Compliance Professionals. She was recognized in 2014 by the Indianapolis Business Journal as one of its Women of Influence honorees. Ms. Lis-Milam is a member of the Steering Committee of ACG’s Private Equity Regulatory Task Force (PERT) and is co-chair of the Advertising and Marketing subgroup.
