India has emerged as one of the most attractive destinations not only for investment but also for doing business in recent years. One of the fastest growing economies in the world which has not only sustained global downturn of 2008-09, India is slated to grow at consistently higher rates during next few decades. In addition, there is a newly elected government in India which is very investment friendly and is encouraging foreign direct investment in India.

Some of the reasons which make India a good investment destination are:

  • Large and fast growing middle class & graduation of poor to middle class and hence growing domestic consumption
  • Lower cost of production due to lower labor rates and availability of skilled manpower
  • Abundant natural resources
  • English as one of the major business languages
  • Government’s emphasis on infrastructure improvement
  • India’s location, close to markets of South East Asia, Middle East and also Europe.

In addition, India is fast becoming a major source of foreign investment for the rest of the world. A number of private and state-owned players are progressively expanding their footprints abroad through direct investments. In the next 15 years, over 2,200 Indian firms are expected to invest in markets overseas.

Some of the sectors where Indian companies have invested in the USA

  • Information technology
  • Power, steel and extraction industries
  • Pharmaceutical and healthcare
