Brazil has reached a new low in its economic, political and social outlook.  Argentina is finally coming out of its worst economic crisis in decades.  Mexico finally looks to lead the region in economic activity, yet corruption continues to permeate every crevice of the business community.  In the past decade, the middle class has allegedly increased by 50%; yet inequality, both economic and social, remains a prominent issue across the region. Historically, Latin American business was focused on commodities, and dominated by foreign companies; yet at present, the region's market growth is driven by growing domestic businesses in manufacturing, retail, and other non-commoditized industries.  Is there hope for Latin America, or are investors faced with the usual peaks and troughs in the region?  About the only thing that the experts can agree on is that to operate successfully in Latin America, businesses and investors must understand the interplay of economic, cultural, and historical forces that play such an important role in the region.
