The Program. Put on hold the daily news stories, your own biases about the future, and take some time to look at the data.

Tom Potiowsky, chairman of Portland State University Department of Economics and director of the newly formed Northwest Economic Research Center, will offer specific suggestions about how to move your company forward in our current economic environment. He will also discuss:

• The differences between uncertainty and risk-taking and how businesses are impacted by these two concepts
• A review of what's happening in the Oregon economy? And, how the national economy specifically impacts Oregon?
  
• Some say this "Great Recession" created a new economic "normal"; but is there really a "new normal"?
  
• The seriousness of student debt – it's now surpassed credit card debt and is second only to home mortgage debt – and its potential crippling effect on achieving the American dream.
  

The Person. Tom Potiowsky was the Oregon State Economist 1999-2006 and 2008-2012 where he provided bi-annual revenues forecasts, lottery revenues and even projected the quantity of prison inmates. He's been in Portland since 1983 and consulted with companies such as Fred Meyer and Nike.
