Good to Great The 2009-2010 Association for Corporate Growth season was a special one for the Raleigh/Durham chapter. High on our list of gratifying happenings was being named "Small ACG Chapter of the Year" by our national headquarters in Chicago. In my view, that honor came to us in large part because of our multi-talented Executive Director, Debra Michie, "our hub", combined with a remarkably talented and dedicated fifteen member Board of Directors, "our spokes of the wheel". The April edition of Capital Conference at The Washington Duke Inn was, once again, our biggest event by any measure. It was gratifying to see about 400 private equity, investment bankers and C-Level corporate executives at one gathering. Attendees came from over twenty states and let us know that life is returning to the M&A markets. By all accounts, our inaugural "ACG Cup" was a sparkling success. Duke’s Fuqua School of Business fielded a team that won first prize and $5000.00 in prize money for their presentation on the case study. Meredith College School of Business won second place and UNC’s Kenan-Flagler Business School was third. We want to thank again Quintiles Transnational and PPD, Inc. for their underwriting of the competition. Looking forward, our upcoming season will feature another new signature event, The 2010 Inc. Magazine 500/5000 Regional Winners Event. Through a new partnership between Inc. and ACG, the Raleigh Durham Chapter will host a dinner event honoring regional Inc. winners with a special keynote address by a prominent North Carolina public figure. The "buzz’ around ACG is audible, be a part of it. Thanks, Loren
