ACG March Breakast - Emerging Opportunities in Alternative Energy

Emerging Opportunities in Green Energy and Energy Efficiency

The Alternative Energy space is white hot in an otherwise down market. In 3rd Q 2009, 19% of venture capital investment in the U.S. went to green energy. This was second only to the biotechnology field. The trend continues in the public markets with clean energy companies soaring and many private companies having ready access to growth capital.

The Green Energy space has many sectors – solar, wind, biofuel, waste to energy, transport, energy efficiency and smart grid technologies – all of which offer opportunity for public and private investment alike. Join us on March 25 for a panel discussion of the future for green energy and opportunities in this area.

Our panelists include:
1 Moderator-David Kirkpatrick, Founder and Managing Director of SJF Ventures, a cleantech and positive impact VC firm.

2. Harold James, Term Wholesale & Alternative Energy, Progress Energy, in charge of Progress Energy’s Alternative Energy initiatives

3. Neal Whitley, Director Business Development, Orbit Energy, Inc., a Triangle-based waste to energy firm

4. Joe Forbes, COO, Consert, Inc., a Triangle-based smart grid technology company

President's Message

As you may have heard, there is a lot going on at ACG Raleigh Durham. Here are a few examples of the plans we have for the 2009-10 program year.

Our 7th Annual Capital Conference is planned for April 2010. We will again be hosting the only Capital Conference in the
Carolinas and we host over 60 private equity groups from across the country. In addition we will host a Reverse Capital Connection on day 1 of the event.

Once again in 2010 we will invite area mid market C-level executives to join us for exclusive C level programming during the Capital Conference. Be sure to mark April 14 & 15, 2010 in your calendars!

Our first ACG Cup competition will be launched this year! It will feature our area’s leading MBA programs participating in a case study competition featuring M&A, valuation and capital market analysis.

We are also proud to continue our C-level program series with quarterly events for our C-level members only.

Finally, our Alliances initiative is kicking off this year and our first alliance partner is UNC. Their Alumni Affairs office will invite area alumni who are in executive positions to attend ACG events where a UNC alum is speaking.

In all, a very rich agenda for our members. Won’t you consider joining us.

Loren Kennedy,

Raleigh-Durham Chapter President
