HAVE YOUR CAKE & EAT IT TOO: Achieving Liquidity While Retaining Control

October 21 2014

7:00-9:00am     Networking and Program

Marriott Del Mar

How can private business owners get partial liquidity for their company without giving up control and still keep some upside? We will hear from two private companies, a private equity firm and a mezzanine debt firm about how business owners can take some chips off the table and still retain control of their company and retain some upside. This hybrid transaction has become increasingly popular among private business owners who are looking to get some liquidity out of their business without selling out entirely. We will hear firsthand from business owners about the positives, negatives, risks and advantages of each of these transactions. We will also hear from the sources of capital about the attributes they look for in these types of transactions.

San Diego entrepreneur and corporate executive turned lawyer, Mike Jones of Higgs Fletcher & Mack, will lead a panel of successful local companies who have gone through one of these types of transactions. Mike will be joined by business owners as well as Frank Mora of Huntington Capital. Our panelists have seen the good, bad and ugly and will share their enthusiasm and cautions to business owners and advisors considering a transaction.
