Tom Campbell
Congressman, Attorney, Economist,
B-School Dean, etc., etc.
Five terms in the U.S Congress, representing districts in California’s Silicon Valley, during periods both of economic growth and recession. Service included the Joint Economic Committee of the US Senate and House.
Tom served 9 years in Congress, including on the Joint Economic Committee, and was also Director of the California Department of Finance, responsible for the state budget. He was also a California State Senator, serving on the budget committee. He uses this experience to analyze the present US national economic situation, and that of the state of California. His comments address when the economy is likely to recover, and whether California is likely to lead or to lag in that recovery--and what we can do to make it more likely California will lead. Tom holds a Ph.D. in economics from the University of Chicago, where Milton Friedman was his faculty advisor; and was, for five years, the Dean of the Haas School of Business at Berkeley.
