Meet the Board: Sam Bachstein, Partner, HCVT

Introduce us to your day job, title and responsibilities.

I am an audit partner in our firm’s Westlake Village office and lead and oversee our office’s commercial audit practice. In addition to working with my teams to provide high-quality audit deliverables and acting as a trusted advisor to my clients, I work on various initiatives within the firm including business development, technical training programs, and recruitment.

What inspired you to pursue a job in this industry?

While studying business at the University of Arizona, I was a manager at a family-owned fast-casual restaurant and worked closely with the company’s CPA and other outside professionals. That experience gave me an appreciation for trusted advisors and sparked my interest in pursuing a profession that would give me the opportunity to act in that capacity. Being somewhat of an entrepreneur since I was a young kid, I wanted to work with entrepreneurs and play an integral role in the companies they build. Being a CPA allows me to work with a lot of exciting business owners and executives and make meaningful contributions to their endeavors.

Why was it important for you to be involved in ACG 101 at the Board level?

I think one of the more meaningful contributions we can make to our communities is to support our local businesses. ACG 101 strives to provide value to the Southern California marketplace by offering a number of valuable resources and connections to professionals, thought leaders, and other advisors. Being a part of the ACG 101 Board allows me to participate in the mission of the organization that I think is so important to our community. Plus, as an added bonus, I get to rub elbows with a bunch of quality folks that I enjoy being around!

What is your favorite thing about ACG 101?

I am continually amazed at the quality of the members in ACG 101 and their commitment to the local business community. We have so many executives, bankers, accountants, attorneys – you name it – that live and breathe in our own backyard and have a deep love and commitment to the community that goes beyond their own personal agendas. I look forward to meeting new people at each one of our events and always walk away with at least one new connection that I’m excited about.

What excites you most about the direction of ACG 101, and how will you contribute to it?

Given the current situation with the COVID-19 pandemic, I am VERY excited to see how ACG 101 comes together as a group to help each other get back up and running full speed when the light turns green. Our current Board has a number of ideas and plans that I think will make a huge contribution to this end, and I feel very grateful to be not just a member of such a wonderful group, but to be in a position to help our fellow business leaders connect, learn, and grow. It’s going to be very exciting to get things fired up again!
