The M&A community is experiencing interesting times, while activity continues to be robust throughout the market there has been an undeniable “cooling” since 2021. Join us as we kick off the New Year and hear from our panelists as we present ACG Maryland’s Annual Deal Market Update. The panel will discuss the latest in the Deal Market as they recap 2022 and discuss trends into 2023.  

Panelists

Jon M. Mahan

Jon is a Managing Director and Head of Financial Sponsor M&A in Stifel’s Mergers & Acquisitions Group. Jon has particular focus on middle market M&A transactions in the diversified industrials and services sectors. Throughout his over 30-year investment banking career, he has completed more than 200 transactions representing more than $21 billion in consideration. In addition, Jon maintains close relationships with many financial sponsors across the country and is a member of the firm’s Fairness Opinion Committee. Jon joined Stifel in 2005 as part of the acquisition of Legg Mason Capital Markets by Stifel; he had been with Legg Mason since 1996. Earlier in his career, he was an equity research analyst at the First of Michigan Corporation and worked for a boutique investment bank that specializes in M&A transactions. Jon is on the Board of Directors of Donegal Group, Inc., a publicly traded property and casualty insurance company. Jon holds a JD from The College of William and Mary School of Law as well as a BBA in Finance, magna cum laude, from Western Michigan University. He is also a CFA Charterholder.

Matt McLain

Matt McLain is a Partner at Victor Capital Partners, a leading middle market private equity firm making control investments in consumer, industrial, and business services companies.  Prior to joining Victor, Matt was a Managing Director at Access Holdings and a Partner at Calvert Street Capital Partners. Previous experience also includes investment banking at Harris Williams & Co. Matt has a BS in Economics from Vanderbilt University and an MBA from Duke with distinction as a Fuqua Scholar.  Matt lives in Baltimore County with his wife, Ashley, and three children, Emily, Ryan, and Charlie.  

Stacey Wittelsberger

Stacey joined Patriot Capital as an analyst in June 2010. Today, Stacey is responsible for origination, underwriting/execution, portfolio management, and investor relations. Prior to joining Patriot, Stacey worked for Banc of America Securities in the Securitized Products group (asset backed securities, mortgage-backed securities and real estate structured finance) from 2008 to 2010. Stacey is on the Board of the Small Business Investor Alliance (SBIA) and was President of the Northeast Region for the SBIA in 2020. Mrs. Wittelsberger is currently Board Chair of the Pratt Contemporaries organization for the Enoch Pratt Free Library in Baltimore. Stacey was also previously Co-President of Baltimore Deal Professionals (BDP), a 200+ member organization in Baltimore for young professionals working in the investment banking and private equity industries, from 2010 to 2019. Stacey lives in the town of Fells Point in Baltimore, MD with her husband Ray and two-year-old daughter Windsor.

 

Ron Kerdasha (Moderator) 

Ron Kerdasha is a Managing Director with Fifth Third Business Capital, the asset-based lending group of Fifth Third Bank.   Ron has over 35 years of experience in sourcing, structuring, and closing senior debt financings related to acquisitions, recapitalizations, turnarounds, and general refinancing.  Prior to joining Fifth Third in 2019 as part of its acquisition of MB Financial Bank, Ron was a key member of a senior team that established Cole Taylor Business Capital in 2008, which eventually merged into MB Financial and became MB Business Capital. Ron is also part of a team at Fifth Third that manages limited partner relationships with a group of Small Business Investment Companies. Ron is a long-time member of the Commercial Finance Association, the Turnaround Management Association, and the Association for Corporate Growth. He is past president of ACG Maryland, served on ACG’s Global Board of Directors, and was chairman of ACG InterGrowth conference in 2004.   Ron holds a B.S. in Accounting from the University of Delaware and an MBA in Corporate Finance from Fordham University.
