Join us Tuesday, October 20th for the virtual monthly luncheon featuring Joan T.A. Gabel, President of the University of Minnesota. 

Joan joined the University of Minnesota in 2019 as the first woman president in their almost 170 year history, presiding over five campuses statewide, At her talk, "Leading through Challenges",  hear how the University is moving forward through the pandemic and how this is affecting the way Universities approach learning now and in the future.

The room opens for networking at 11:30 and the speaker begins at noon.

President

Joan T.A. Gabel assumed office as the University of Minnesota’s 17th President on July 1, 2019. Under her leadership, the U of M has prioritized and advanced the strength and impact of the University system, including through the development the first systemwide strategic plan. She led the University’s efforts to address the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic, while reimagining opportunities for the University to not only advance its nearly 170-year legacy, but navigate new ways to reinvent itself. In the aftermath of George Floyd’s tragic killing, she has committed to listening, learning, and engaging, while driving action that is sustainable and has meaning.

President Gabel most recently served as executive vice president and the provost at the University of South Carolina (UofSC), and previously held faculty appointments at Georgia State University and Florida State University. She also served as dean of the University of Missouri’s Robert J. Trulaske, Sr. College of Business, where she was recognized as a shining star in business school administration by the Wall Street Journal.

She earned her bachelor’s degree in philosophy from Haverford College and her Juris Doctor from the University of Georgia. She has been recognized with numerous research, service, and teaching awards, including a Fulbright Scholarship.
