Body

The panel will explore the current market conditions to highlight recent deal activity and consider the benefits and challenges that scale up businesses face in relation to access to finance and how they can be best prepared. The aim is to cover the funding ladder perspective from the point of view of potential flotation on the public markets.

Charlie Walker is Head of Equity Primary Markets for the London Stock Exchange and is a capital markets specialist having spent over 11 years in J.P. Morgan Cazenove’s Equity Capital Markets team responsible for originating and executing equity transactions. He has assisted in raising over £45bn of equity capital across five continents on behalf of clients. During his time at JPMC, Charlie also worked in Sydney raising capital for companies on the Australian Stock Exchange as well as taking primary responsibility for the South African equity capital markets practice.

Stuart joined finnCap in March 2012 as Head of Corporate Finance and joined the Board in 2013. He qualified as a chartered accountant at PwC and subsequently worked in the corporate finance department of Beeson Gregory and Evolution Securities. Stuart has extensive knowledge of advisory roles for ambitious growth companies both on the public markets and privately which includes IPOs, all aspects of fundraising and M&A.

 

Stuart is currently a member of the AIM Advisory Group which is an external committee of senior executives who provide input and advice on all matters affecting the operation and regulation of AIM. He has previously chaired the Quoted Companies Alliance Markets and Regulations Committee and is now a member of the Primary Markets Expert Group.

Dominic Emery joined Raymond James in 2017 to launch the London office and is a Managing Director of the firm’s Technology & Services Investment Banking group. Prior to Raymond James, Mr. Emery ran Investec’s Technology Investment Banking group with responsibility across both ECM and M&A advisory work. Mr. Emery also previously worked for Close Brothers Corporate Finance in Technology M&A and Robson Rhodes as a turnaround and insolvency specialist. Mr. Emery has over 15 years’ investment banking experience and has completed over 100 transactions that span mergers, acquisitions, corporate divestitures, public equity and debt financings, and private equity capital raises. Mr. Emery graduated from the Universities of Durham, UK and Lyon, France with a BA (Hons.) in History with French. Mr. Emery is also a Chartered Accountant.

Paul specialises in corporate finance, predominantly for public companies. He has a particular focus on the natural resource, financial services and technology sectors. Paul acts on capital market transactions for issuers and brokers on the Main Market and AIM, including debt and other non-equity capital issues. He also advises on public company takeovers both for bidders and targets and has a particular expertise in advising overseas companies on bids for UK companies subject to the Takeover Code. He also regularly provides governance and regulatory advice to listed companies, including in relation to the Market Abuse Regulation and on shareholder and boardroom disputes.

He also acts for private companies on a range of matters including section 110 reorganisations, and shareholder/ board disputes. He is a member of the Quoted Companies Alliance Legal Experts Committee.

Paul is admitted to practise in England and Wales.

Claire Dorrian is part of the Primary Markets team and leads the work in London and the South from an IPO origination perspective, with a focus on small-mid cap UK companies. 

In her role she is focused on working with boards of private companies and their owners, in their initial and on-going assessment of a potential IPO strategy on AIM or the Main Market, and life as a listed company.
