Meet the Board: Lars Rathje, Partner, Lockton

Introduce us to your day job, title and responsibilities.

I am a partner at Lockton Companies, the world’s largest privately held commercial insurance brokerage with over 100 offices worldwide and 7500+ associates. I coordinate teams that drive innovative solutions for complex Property & Casualty and Employee Benefits needs found in the middle market and Fortune 1000. I provide clients with customized insurance product offerings and effective risk management tools including: policy analysis, contract review, safety management, claims handling and more to help maximize profitability while mitigating risk.

What inspired you to pursue a job in this industry?

Within one week, three friends who knew my entrepreneurial spirit and passion for connecting people thought I would excel with a career in the insurance industry. I was persuaded with the opportunity to learn about the unique challenges businesses encounter, and the ability to formulate creative ways to solve them. I also get to live my life purpose: “Be a Catalyst” and vision: “Facilitate Connections Every Day” through my business networking.

Bio

I was born in Denmark, grew-up in Thousand Oaks, California, played competitive tennis (even had the opportunity to share a court with Sam Querrey, at times), and was a sponsored surfer traveling to a few of the world’s best surf breaks. I earned my bachelor’s degree in Economics and Accounting with a minor in Entrepreneurship from the University of California Santa Barbara, and founded a Time & Attendance software business through the Technology Management Program. I spend my free time surfing, kiteboarding, skiing and snowboarding in Mammoth and recently took up golfing. I’ve had a passion for flying since I was a kid. My first word was “Flyvemaskine” which is Danish for “airplane”. I decided to pursue my childhood dreams and at the age of 30, I earned my pilot’s license.

Why was it important for you to be involved in ACG 101 at the Board level?

ACG 101 is a perfect platform to help me fulfill my passion for connecting people. Being able to grow my network and add value to those I meet is important to me personally and professionally. I found that by being involved at the board level I could influence the creating and facilitation of unique and memorable events along the 101 corridor.

Describe your current responsibilities on the Board, if applicable.

I am on the Executive Committee and am the current Programs Chair. My responsibility is to oversee all events, ensuring they are filled with rich networking opportunities, informative, run smoothly and are profitable.

What is your favorite thing about ACG 101?

Being a part of the teams that produce unique and memorable events.

What excites you most about the direction of ACG 101, and how will you contribute to it?

We are in the midst of shaking things up at ACG 101 with a refreshed programs calendar, more actively engaging with our members and non-members, and growing our chapter.
