    Shane Dunn


    Ernst & Young
    Partner & Senior Vice President, M&A

    Shane advises public and private companies on acquisition, divestiture and financing transactions primarily in the energy services sector. He is also responsible for sourcing, structuring, valuation and financial modelling of transactions. Shane joined our group in January 2005 and previously worked at a large Canadian bank and served as the director of M&A for a major Canadian insurance company. Shane has a Bachelor of Corporate Finance from the Gerald Schwartz School of Business at St. Francis Xavier University



    Ryan Tizzard


    Ryan Tizzard previously held positions with PNC Business Credit, Deloitte & Touche Corporate Finance Canada and MNP Corporate Finance (formerly Tamarack Capital Advisors). He has a business bachelor’s degree (B.Comm) from the University of Calgary with a concentration in Finance. Tizzard is presently the Membership Chair for the Calgary Chapter of the Association for Corporate Growth and is a CFA charter holder.

    Jon joined TriWest in 2007 and is a Principal in the investment group.  Prior to joining TriWest, Jon worked as an Analyst at RBC Capital Markets in the Global Energy Group where he was involved in a number of public equity offerings and mergers and acquisition assignments.

    From 2008 to 2010, Jon served as President for the Calgary Chapter of the Richard Ivey School of Business Alumni Association and was formerly a Director of a TSX-Venture listed Capital Pool Corporation.

    Jon graduated with distinction from the Richard Ivey School of Business, University of Western Ontario, with an Honors degree in Business Administration.

    Greg P. Shannon, QC, is a partner in Gowling WLG’s Capital Markets, M&A and Private Equity groups, as well as the Tax and Private Client Services groups, based in the firm’s Calgary office. His practice encompasses corporate finance, M&A, tax and corporate governance.

    Called to the bar in Alberta, British Columbia, the District of Columbia and California, Greg has worked in both Canada and the United States, and uses his significant cross-border experience to inform his practice. Greg’s areas of expertise include acting as counsel on corporate reorganizations, international transactions, mergers & acquisitions, as well as advising clients on IPOs and RTOs. He also acts for investment funds, limited partnerships, and venture and angel funds on private equity transactions.


    Jeff Block

    Jeff has a wide range of professional experience which includes operational experience, acquisitions, financings, and working closely with management teams to achieve the next stage of their growth. Jeff previously worked as the Vice President of Investments at a western Canadian based private equity firm where he was responsible for sourcing and analyzing opportunities, performing due diligence, negotiations and working with portfolio companies on their strategic plans. Jeff also has experience starting and operating a rail construction and maintenance division for a family owned construction conglomerate.

    Jeff is a designated Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA, CA) and Chartered Business Valuator (CBV) and has experience working for Ernst & Young in their corporate finance, restructuring and audit groups. Jeff is originally from Manitoba where he received his Bachelor of Commerce (Honours) degree from the I.H. Asper School of Business.


    Darrell Peterson

    Darrell Peterson's practice focuses principally on transactions for natural resource industry participants, including companies engaged in oil and gas exploration and production (E&P), midstream activities (gas and oil), hydrocarbon upgrading and refining and oilfield services.

    Darrell has significant experience in mergers, acquisitions and divestitures; private equity investments; and bank financings. He has represented:

    • public companies and special board committees in M&A transactions;
    • major integrated oil companies in transactional matters;
    • independent E&P companies, oilfield services providers, and hydrocarbon upgrading and refiners in M&A, A&D, joint venture, partnership and financing activities;
    • private equity funds and investees in energy investments;
    • management in MBO and LBO transactions; and
    • issuers of equity and debt in capital markets transactions, including private placements, initial public offerings and prospectus offerings

    Charles co-founded Kluane Partners in 2014 and leads Kluane’s Capital Advisory and Financial services practice. Charles made a career of investing institutional capital (Novacap, EDC Equity, BMO Capital Partners, Alberta Teachers’ Retirement Fund) in privately owned companies in a variety of industries across Canada, the United States and Europe. Charles originated, structured and closed over 40 transactions ranging from private equity leverage buyouts, management buyouts, venture capital, growth capital financings, mezzanine to a variety of debt financings. He also played an instrumental role at a successful start-up venture named Daiya Foods (raising capital and leading operations) and was a consultant at a firm named USC Consulting Group which specializes in process improvement and operational excellence serving fortune 500 client.

    Charles holds a Bachelor of Commerce Degree from Concordia University and a Masters in Business Administration from Ivey Business School. Charles is a member of the Canadian Venture Capital & Private Equity Association (CVCA), is the Executive Director and Treasurer of the Association for Corporate Growth (ACG) Calgary Chapter, and is a former board member of the Alberta Bicycle Association. On weekends Charles is known to be an outdoor enthusiast, typically spending time skiing or cycling.
