When not working I enjoy rock climbing and taking my dog to hiking trails and dog parks around the Twin Cities.

People might be surprised to know I am a diehard fan of the Seattle Seahawks football team.

How has COVID-19 forced change in your business?
Like most other firms, Ballard Spahr attorneys and staff are now working remotely. Thankfully, our firm had a strong remote working infrastructure in place prior to the virus outbreak, so the transition hasn’t been nearly as challenging as it could have been. I really miss interacting with my colleagues face-to-face, so I’m looking forward to when we can finally host a non-virtual happy hour! Despite all of the challenges that working from home presents, it has been a really humanizing experience. My favorite work-from-home moment thus far was when another attorney had to pause our conference call for a few minutes to get her five-year-old daughter to stop kicking the wall above her home office.

What guidance are you giving to clients during these uncertain times?
Don’t hesitate to reach out to us about issues you are facing, even if the issue isn’t a legal one. We have lots of contacts and resources that we can connect business owners and managers with to help them navigate the problems they are facing.

What's been your favorite or most memorable moment of your career so far?
The most memorable moment of my career (so far) is the first M&A deal that I closed as the sole associate on the transaction. Up until that point, I had always worked under the supervision a senior associate, so this was the first time that I carried all of the associate responsibilities on my shoulders. The deal was a heavily negotiated private equity transaction with a complicated structure and multiple nuanced issues particular to that deal, and having the chance to take ownership of the transaction was a fantastic experience and helped me gain confidence in my ability to run a complex deal at the associate level.

ACG Minnesota has been a great tool for meeting other members of the Midwest M&A scene and for staying up-to-date on emerging trends in the industry.

You will want to take advantage of the programming. The presentations are always on timely topics with expert presenters. They are also a great way to network with others in the deal-making community.

I counsel corporate entities and private equity firms in connection with middle-market mergers, acquisitions, sales, and reorganizations. Additionally, I advise clients on day-to-day legal and business matters, including corporate governance, commercial contracts, entity formation, and regulatory compliance.
