When not working I try to stay connected with family and friends, golfing, fishing, hunting - doer of all; master of none.
Fun fact, while a student, I was somehow allowed to promote a Hall & Oates concert on campus at Moorhead State.
How has COVID-19 forced change in your business?
Because transitioning the ownership of a business is such a life-changing event, introductory face-to-face meetings, first with the Seller and later with the Buyer, have been critical to developing successful working relationships. First meetings wearing a face mask aren’t going to work. We’re going to have to do the best we can in the short term with video calls, but I hope we can get back to handshakes and smiles very soon.
What guidance are you giving to clients during these uncertain times?
Continue to stay “Essential” – to your customers, suppliers and employees. After surviving, there are going to be new and very different opportunities ahead.
What's been your favorite or most memorable moment of your career so far?
Two weeks ago, I got a call the evening of a closing from one of the co-owners of the company we represented. On the speaker of his cell phone, he and his wife both said how happy they were to have completed the sale to some really nice people and how excited they were to start the next chapter of their lives. I love those calls.
My ACG Minnesota membership has really helped me and Lingate expand our reach locally, regionally and nationally through the monthly chapter meetings, annual Capital Connection, and other networking opportunities.
I advise newer members to continue to network and meet other professionals (however that’s going to be done). Referrals will always matter a great deal.
