Joan Carter is the co-founder and President of UM Holdings Ltd., a private company that has owned and managed a portfolio of companies since 1972.  Ms. Carter is the Vice Chairman of Cybex International, a US manufacturer of fitness equipment, and serves on the Board of EHE International, the nation’s largest provider of physical examinations, both of which are owned and operated by UM Holdings. Ms. Carter also serves on the Board of the Penn Mutual Life Insurance Company and formerly served on the boards of CarrAmerica and the Federal Reserve Bank of Philadelphia. A graduate of the College of Wooster, she serves on that school's Board of Trustees, is a Trustee of The Lourdes Health System and the immediate past President of the Union League of Philadelphia, the first woman President in the League’s 150 year history. She is a member of The Cato Institute, the Chevalier des Tastevin, the Pennsylvania Women's Forum, and Women Corporate Directors. Ms. Carter has received numerous awards and accolades including the prestigious 2011 Musser Leadership Award from Temple University.
