  • Douglas Bell works extensively with a few select Edmonton families on matters relating to growth capital, mergers and acquisitions, financial, estate, and tax planning. His experience as a CFO, shadow CFO and director leans towards the oil and gas service and real estate sectors but varies from retail analytics to satellite communications. He has been a board member of several non-profit and registered charities, as well as a director or advisory board member to several private companies including Grandview Exploration Inc., Headcount Corporation and Standard Scaffolding and Insulation Inc. His focus remains on creating shareholder value. Following a career with Price Waterhouse, for the past twenty five years he has been a trusted advisor to a small number of Edmonton entrepreneurs.

 

 

  • Karen MacDonald is the Chief Operating Officer of Viewpoint Family Office, which provides wealth management, philanthropic and personal services to high net worth families. In her role, she is responsible for leading a professional, dedicated team who ensure stewardship of the family’s capital for future generations and for the community.
  • Karen grew up surrounded by entrepreneurs and has always had a keen interest in helping families manage their financial and human capital, as well as mentoring others to help perform at their best.
  • Karen has been with viewpoint since 1997, after holding various financial related positions with private equity, distribution and accounting firms. She holds a Bachelor of Commerce from the University of Alberta, is a CPA and most recently, a graduate of the Family Enterprise Advisor program.
  • Currently a member of the Management Advisory Committee at the Haskayne School of Business at the University of Calgary, a steering committee member of the Canadian Family Office Forum and volunteers at the Boys and Girls Club of Calgary.  She has worked as a volunteer and director of various not-for-profit organizations such as the DI Centre, Inn from the Cold, Fernie Alpine Ski Team and Westside Recreation Centre. Karen loves the outdoors and enjoys her time skiing, cycling and hiking with family and friends.

 

 

  • David Sparrow joined Forbes Bros in December 2016 to create a family office and build a portfolio of mid market private equity investments. Based in Edmonton, he leads the investment process and is involved in sourcing and executing new investment transactions.
  • Alongside his role at Forbes Bros Capital, David is a Senior Vice President of Forbes Bros Ltd., where he leads merger and acquisition transactions, financings, bonding, and has oversight of various corporate functions and initiatives. Forbes Bros Ltd., is the largest privately held power line construction group in Canada.
  • David is also a board member of a significant private company involved in the manufacturing of oil & gas products.
  • Previously, David was a partner at Deloitte LLP and a Senior Managing Director with Deloitte Corporate Finance Inc. and led the mid market corporate finance practice in Alberta. David was directly responsible for clients and for sourcing, negotiating and closing divestiture, M&A and financing transactions.
  • David is a CPA-Chartered Accountant, a Chartered Business Valuator and has been involved in the corporate finance for more than twenty years.
