Julia Karol
President and COO
Watermill Group

 

 

Julia Karol is President and COO of Watermill Group. She is responsible for overall firm operations and helping Watermill portfolio companies develop and implement their strategies. Previously, as a Watermill Principal, Julia helped guide the day-to-day operations of the firm, directed the firm’s investor relations and managed fundraising initiatives for acquisitions.

Prior to joining Watermill, Julia worked at Jumpstart, a national nonprofit organization. While at Jumpstart, she managed Boston-area fundraising, coordinated communication and marketing efforts, cultivated partnerships, developed alumni relations programming, and oversaw staff recruitment efforts.

Julia currently serves as a Partner with Social Venture Partners, Boston. Previously, Julia founded and served as board chair for the Young Nonprofit Professionals Network in Boston. She is a former member of both the Breakthrough Greater Boston’s Associate Board and the Young Adult Committee for the Winsor School in Boston. Julia is a member of ACG Boston.

She received a M.A. in Education Policy, Organization and Leadership from Stanford University, completed the Summer Institute for Entrepreneurship at the Stanford Graduate School of Business, and earned a B.A. from Tufts University. Currently, she a member of the 2017 class of the Harvard Business School’s Owners, Presidents, Managers Program.

 

 

 

Karin Kovacic, Moderator

Karin (McKittrick) Kovacic leads new business development and deal origination initiatives.

Prior to Alcentra, Karin developed and implemented CBIZ MHM LLC’s growth, marketing and business development strategies in the New York Metropolitan area. Prior to CBIZ, Karin spent four years as Vice President at Fifth Street Capital, where she was responsible for North East deal origination, as well as coordinating their business development and marketing efforts. She also spent four years with UBS Financial as a Registered Associate where she was actively involved in institutional sales of equity related products and relationship management. Karin began her career at Smith Barney as a Registered Sales Associate.

Karin graduated magna cum laude from SUNY Purchase with a B.A. in Liberal Arts. She is on the board of the New York Chapter of the Alliance of Merger & Acquisitions Advisors (AM&AA) and is the President of the Connecticut Chapter of the Association for Corporate Growth (ACG).

 

 

 

Nicola Morris
Senior Vice President, Corporate Development

Nicola Morris has built a 20-year career helping companies identify and develop new business opportunities. She has broad experience in global business strategy and development, and has spent much of her career overseeing product management and marketing for technology-focused companies in the wireless, cloud computing, security, and telecommunications sectors.

At WEX, Nicola leads the corporate development team and is responsible for corporate strategy, corporate development activities including M&A, corporate marketing, and early stage product development.

Prior to joining WEX, Nicola held several positions of increasing responsibility at Verizon Communications. She was most recently vice president, global corporate strategy, where she targeted new business opportunities and created all senior executive communications related to Verizon’s growth strategy. Nicola has also previously worked at MCI, Digex and Iridium.

Nicola received bachelor’s degrees in economics and Chinese language from Wellesley College and a master’s in international affairs from the Johns Hopkins University, School of Advanced International Studies.

 

 

 

Laura Moruzzi
Managing Director

Ms. Moruzzi has over two decades of investment banking experience in mergers and acquisitions (M&A) and general corporate advisory services. As Managing Director of MFA Capital Advisors, Laura provides business consulting and transactional related services – assisting clients in the sale of their company by means of a merger, consolidation, recapitalization, business combination, reorganization or other related transaction. She is sought after for her M&A expertise which ranges from evaluating strategic alternatives and drafting descriptive memorandums to initial buyer contact through deal negotiations and final documentation leading to successful transaction execution. A seasoned professional, her experience crosses several industry sectors spanning technology and telecom to industrial and consumer products.

Laura serves as a financial advisor to companies, entrepreneurs, family-owned businesses, executives, shareholders, and individuals, often acting as a liaison through collaboration with other advisors to achieve the client’s strategic objectives. Her practical, unbiased recommendations regarding transactions make her a trusted advisor to her clients.
