History

Founded in the 1990’s as the Austin chapter of ACG, our chapter initially focused much of its programming and membership development around Austin’s vibrant technology sector, working closely with the University of Texas and other organizations to provide a resource and network for startups and to advance the city’s technology community. By 2003, other organizations had evolved to serve this sector and a decision was made to refocus the chapter on middle-market companies in all industries. A middle-market focus remains to this day and aligns the chapter with our global parent entity.

In 2007, recognizing that Austin and San Antonio were growing together and that San Antonio did not have an ACG chapter, the ACG Austin chapter petitioned ACG Global to bring San Antonio under its umbrella and to covert the name of the chapter to ACG Central Texas. That request was granted and the chapter board of directors was expanded with the goal of having equal representation on the board from both cities. The chapter is thus structured with a single board of directors, one president, one treasurer, a paid chapter executive and two "networks" one in Austin and one in San Antonio. Each "network" has an executive VP, program chair, membership chair, sponsorship chair and special event chair(s).

Since becoming ACG Central Texas, the chapter has held regular monthly luncheon meetings in both cities. Over the years, a number of annual events have been added to complement our regular meetings. These include: A Toast to Private Equity initiated in 2007 as a way to recognize the contributions of Texas private equity firms to our business community; the corporate Growth Awards, also begun in 2007 to recognize companies that have demonstrated outstanding growth; and the Texas 2-Step, a more recent addition held annually in San Antonio which brings together private equity, dealmakers and corporate executives around a varying industry sector theme.

At the end of 2019, ACG Central Texas changed it's name to ACG Austin/San Antonio.
