ACG ASA's Monthly Lunchtime Virtual Meeting on 4/28/21

This monthly lunchtime virtual meeting replaces our in-person monthly lunch until we are able to safely gather again. Each month we will have a short educational program followed by facilitated peer to peer networking.

To quote Ricky Bobby, “If you ain’t first, you’re last!”

For our April program we are excited to have Larry Cochran. Larry, Founder and CEO, acquired IAS Claim Services in 2006 after spending a decade as a CPA and consultant with an international firm. In 2000, he left the consulting world for an ownership position and to lead Pure Energy Group, an exploration and production oil and gas company in Texas. After his successful exit from Pure, Larry purchased IAS Claims Service. He led its growth from a small, single state provider to one of the largest and most recognized national brands in the industry serving many of the highest-rated P&C insurers in the US. He brought in new leadership to IAS to allow him to focus his attention on Claimatic and has also since launched another consumer focused InsureTech, currently in stealth mode.

Few entrepreneurs are disciplined enough to develop written annual strategic plans, operating budgets, and, most importantly, hold themselves accountable to them. Fewer still recognize that it takes a seasoned management team to achieve significant growth as opposed to a sole individual. Larry has shepherded the growth of his firms to an astonishing 500%+ growth rate through disciplined execution and a fervent desire to be the best. He will share his experiences with the ACG audience and lessons learned.

There is no charge to attend, but advance registration is required. Login link will be provided in the registration confirmation email.

Embrace Your Threshold of Incompetence! Mantra of mine: Run your business like it’s in trouble – always. It gives you focus, sense of urgency and a culture of innovation. Favorite quote: “Success is not final, Failure is not fatal: It’s the courage to continue that counts.” Winston Churchill Key points:

• Spent first 15 years of my professional life learning everything I could about business, mostly on other’s dime

• Learned a lot about how companies get in trouble and then how to fix them before I started running my own

• Finance and accounting wasn’t my thing but I took my time to get fluent and that’s helped me immensely

• Break everything down in business to very simple concepts – even with accounting my most important report is the “shoebox”

• Ideas are exciting, placing bets on them and executing is terrifying o Financial projections are 100% inaccurate – so are business plans!

• Always be mindful of your “threshold of incompetence” and build your leadership around that

• Culture is key. Values-based leadership doesn’t happen just by hiring talented, smart people – you have to walk the walk

• Never ever give up on yourself or your business. Most people that I see fail as entrepreneurs: a) aren’t operating with a holistic view of their business; b) aren’t listening to their demand signals and pivoting based on those and c) give up too easily
