When Acquisition Isn't the Answer: Building, Shaping, and Sustaining Strategic Partnerships
Featured Speaker, Dina Vaysman, Senior Director of Transactions at Johnson & Johnson, draws on her experience in precision oncology to explore how companies create and sustain value through long-term strategic partnerships - particularly when outright acquisition is not possible or practical.
Precision oncology requires large pharmaceutical companies to forge enduring partnerships with diagnostic companies that operate under fundamentally different business models, incentive structures, risk profiles, and economics. Dina will share what it takes to set those partnerships up for success - from early development through full commercialization.
Topics Dina will discuss include:
- When and why partnering beats buying - reframing value creation beyond M&A
- Aligning incentives across asymmetric partners - working across organizations with different business models, scale, and risk tolerance
- Designing partnerships end-to-end - managing interdependencies and ensuring flexibility
- Governance that holds - building in frameworks that ensure coordination through inflection points, shifting priorities, and leadership changes
Dina Vaysman is Senior Director of Transactions at Johnson & Johnson. She brings over a decade of transactional experience across J&J's Pharmaceutical, Medical Device, and Consumer Health sectors, having executed more than $20 billion in deal value across >40 transactions. Before joining J&J, she was an investment banking associate at Greenhill & Co. and a strategy consultant at Accenture. Dina holds a Bachelor of Engineering from Cornell University and an MBA from Columbia Business School. |
