Join us to hear how a dynamic panel of next generation family business owners overcame the obstacles, business challenges, personality clashes and other pitfalls of navigating the helm of their respective companies as second-generation owners.

This interactive panelist discussion will highlight their trials and tribulations while blending the “old guard” with “the new”.  From branding, technology and social media, to legal, structural issues, HR and overall stewardship, there is something in it for all types of professionals and business owners.

John Conforti, Jr.

President

John C. Conforti, Jr. is a 2nd-generation owner, president, and Professional Engineer of Air Group, LLC, a premier full-service company located in Whippany, New Jersey, that specializes in HVAC, plumbing, and electrical for both residential and commercial. John graduated from Penn State University with a 5-Year Architectural Engineering Degree with a Business Minor. He also earned the New Jersey Masters Plumbing license and recently received the newly initiated New Jersey Masters HVAC license.

After graduation, John launched his career by working as a consulting engineer in the New York City area. His first couple of jobs with Syska & Hennessey / WSP and Barone Engineering Associates paved the way to fulfilling his four years of experience to receive his Professional Engineering license from the State of New Jersey.

Throughout the years, John has stayed true to Air Group's credo to: “Serve our customers to the best of our abilities.” John also continues Air Group's amazing environment for its employees. One of the unique things about the Air Group is the amount of time their employees stay. This is all the more impressive when you consider that the company has over 300 service trucks on the road. Darren Slosberg is CEO of Legacy Converting of Cranbury, NJ.  He joined the company in 1997 to work alongside his father.  At that time, the core business was packaging and other corrugated services.  However, Darren had a vision of what the future of the company would look like.  Along with his brother, he co-founded a new unit within their father’s company which eventually became the business known today as Legacy.  Today, their father’s original business represents only a small piece of the overall operation.  Legacy is a manufacturer and converter of innovative wiping products.  Darren led the growth of the company to what has become a multi-million dollar provider of private label and branded lines of non-woven and paper disposable wiping products meeting needs of the medical, hospital, technology, and food service industries.

Harvey Wexelman is the President and CEO of Alwex Inc. a full-service independent insurance agency with offices in NYC and NJ.  Harvey’s father and a partner founded the business after leaving their prior agency in 1991. In 1993 Harvey joined his father at Alwex and earned his degree at night while working days learning the agency business from the ground floor up.
