The Story of Update Legal’s Transition from Family Business to Private Equity Sale, as told by entrepreneur Joshua Schott

Join ACG New Jersey for Part One of a 3-part event series featuring the multi-step transition of Update Legal from an entrepreneurial family business to a complete private equity sale. 

Part 1 features an interactive discussion with Joshua Schott focused on the planning and preparation for a transition event.  The presentation will address the business and personal considerations involved in a family business succession, and sale to an investor.  The discussion will compare and contrast the preparation needed for

various types of transitions, address critical decision points in the preparation process and explore the entrepreneur’s lessons learned.

Parts 2 and 3 will address the Transition Events/Transactions and Life After the Deals, respectively.  We will announce the 2019 dates for these events in the coming weeks, and hope you will join us!

Update Legal, founded in 1970, is a provider of professional staffing services for law firms and corporate clients, providing attorneys, paralegals, litigation support and other professionals on a temporary basis.  Joshua Schott took over as President of the Company in 1994, succeeding his father as principal of the company.  Update Legal was sold in a recapitalization to Gryphon Investors, a private equity firm, in 2005, and sold entirely to Conversion Venture Capital in 2013.
