A Tale of Relentless Optimism!

Erica Disch and her husband Ray entered the alcohol industry in 1995, when they founded the first brewpub — Triumph Brewing Company in Princeton, NJ.  They also helped lobby the state of NJ to make brewpubs legal to operate in the state. They sold Triumph, but still wanted to get back to the business of producing a craft product.  In 2013, distilling was legalized in NJ and in 2015 Sourland Mountain Spirits came to life in Hopewell.  The business was booming, and the Disch family saw their business plan, conceived in 2014, come to fruition growing staff to include sales and marketing staff and becoming known as a maker of specialty craft spirits—Coffee liqueur, Apple Brandy, Bourbon, Vodka, Gin (one of the Top 100 spirits of 2019, according to Wine Enthusiast).   Then came the novel coronavirus, with social distancing measures,  and a shift in consumer tastes from small-batch locally sourced craft spirits to cheaper products in large quantities.  An email from a trade group led the Disch family to an unlikely new product, hand sanitizer!

Join the ACG WOL for a virtual tour of Sourland Mountain Spirits' facility and hear from Erica a truly original story about a family business that spearheaded the growth of two industries in NJ, hit a wall with COVID and shifted again!  We'll enjoy a virtual tour of the facility in Hopewell then hear from Erica who will share Sourland Mountain Spirits' story.
