Former Rutgers standout turned entrepreneur and advocate continues to drive impact through Team LeGrand and spinal cord injury research.

Eric LeGrand has turned a life-altering moment into a mission that continues to impact thousands.

ROI-NJ recently sat down with LeGrand for a video interview ahead of his recognition at the ACG NJ 2026 Corporate Growth Awards, where he will receive a Lifetime Achievement Award.

A former Rutgers football player, LeGrand suffered a paralyzing spinal cord injury in 2010, facing what he described as a “very grim” prognosis.

In the years since, he has “overcome a lot of adversities” while working to support not only himself and his family, but others facing similar challenges.

Turning adversity into advocacy

Early in his recovery, the Christopher & Dana Reeve Foundation provided guidance as he adjusted to life with a spinal cord injury.

That support inspired the creation of Team LeGrand in 2013, an initiative focused on raising awareness and funding research.

Through community-driven events ranging from fitness classes to golf outings, Team LeGrand has raised nearly $3 million.

“There are 5.6 million Americans dealing with some sort of paralysis, and injuries are happening every single day,” LeGrand said. “If we can live Christopher Reeve’s dream—a world of empty wheelchairs—and find that cure, that’s what it’s all about.”
