Chapter of the Year 2018

CHICAGO, May 3, 2018 – ACG announced the winners of the annual Chapter of the Year honors. Awards are presented in three categories based on a chapter’s membership size. This year’s winners are:

  • ACG Atlanta
  • ACG Western Michigan
  • ACG San Diego

“Each and every year, ACG’s chapter executives and volunteers work tirelessly to make the member experience a memorable and enduring one,” said Pat Morris, ACG Global President and CEO. “The three chapters selected had a banner year in delivering innovation, exceptional programing and networking opportunities to their members, which resulted in impressive membership growth and retention rates.”

ACG Atlanta
One of ACG’s most established chapters, ACG Atlanta has served Atlanta’s business community for more than 40 years. In just one year, the chapter turned its membership growth around – thanks to innovative programming, operational optimization, and the expansion of the chapter into Alabama with the launch of the ACG Birmingham Network. The chapter hosts powerful programming for strategic networks, such as quarterly roundtables for corporate development officers, the Women’s Forum, and GEAR – Growth Equity Executive Atlanta Roundtable, a networking series for growth-equity backed CEOs and CFOs.

ACG Western Michigan
A presence in West Michigan’s growth community since 1999, ACG Western Michigan has earned this distinction for the second year in a row. In 2017, this vibrant chapter experienced the highest membership growth rate and second highest retention rate in ACG. This chapter’s successful member engagement speaks to its comprehensive marketing plan and innovative outreach to young professionals.

ACG San Diego
Formed in 1984, ACG San Diego promotes the professional interests of its members through popular events and relevant programming, such as member breakfasts, a long-running Private Capital Markets Expo, and collaborations with ACG chapters and other organizations. This chapter also achieved one of the highest membership growth rates in its size category coupled with well-above average retention rates. In addition, the chapter has been an active participant in ACG’s public policy efforts.

“ACG chapters across the globe continue to outdo themselves every year,” said J.B. Dollison, ACG Global’s chairman of the board. “The Chapter of the Year and President’s award winners are shining examples of what it means to drive middle-market growth. This is the reason why midmarket M&A professionals have come to rely on our organization for networking and deal flow opportunities, as well as access to emerging best practices and thought leadership. That’s the power of ACG.”

The Chapter of the Year awards are based on scoring in three areas: self-assessment, benchmark data, and ACG engagement.

  1. The self-assessment allows each chapter to self-score on a range of best practices in the following categories – leadership and governance, financial operations, membership, programs and marketing
  2. For benchmark data, key chapter performance metrics, such as membership retention and chapter growth are used
  3. Chapter engagement and involvement within ACG is also measured via self-reporting and includes participation in monthly conference calls and leadership meetings

In addition, Melanie Brandt, president & CEO of ACG Atlanta, has been selected as the recipient of the ACG President’s Award for Excellence and Achievement by an ACG Chapter Executive. The annual award recognizes a single ACG chapter executive for length of service coupled with outstanding performance as an association professional. During Brandt’s five years with ACG Atlanta, the chapter has experienced remarkable growth and success.
