February 1, 2016: CHICAGO – Today, the Association for Corporate Growth® (ACG), the global organization that represents 90,000 M&A professionals focused on driving middle-market growth, applauded the U.S. House of Representatives for passing the SEC Small Business Advocate Act of 2016 (H.R. 3784) and urged the Senate to follow before the end of the Congress.

The bill would establish an Office of the Small Business Advocate at the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) for small and midsize companies with $250 million or less in capitalization, formalize the current SEC Advisory Committee on Small and Emerging Companies as a permanent Small Business Advisory Committee, and bring the annual Government-Business Forum on Small Business Capital Formation under the authority of the newly formed office.

"The new office will be a strong, independent voice for America’s small and midsize businesses at the SEC," said Gary A. LaBranche, ACG President & CEO. "Regulations and policy decisions by the SEC have an important impact on the middle market. ACG calls on members of the Senate to pass the bill to ensure that small and middle-market companies—the engines of job growth—are top-of-mind with SEC regulators with respect to facilitating and encouraging capital formation, maintaining fair, orderly and efficient markets, and protecting investors."

In October 2015, ACG signed on to a letter of support with other trade organizations, including the Small Business Investor Alliance, National Venture Capital Association and the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, among others.

Founded in 1954, the Association for Corporate Growth has 59 chapters and 14,500 members around the world. ACG serves 90,000 investors, owners, executives, lenders and advisers to growing middle-market companies. ACG’s mission is to drive middle-market growth.
