Why did you join ACG WI NextGen? I chose to join ACG WI NextGen because it is imperative as an Investment Banker to build a network. Moreover, ACG WI NextGen provides a network building opportunity within my generation and within the local M&A cohort of professionals.
How has NextGen helped you in your career? NextGen has helped my career thus far by establishing a network of likeminded individuals that are not only potential colleagues, but also friends. This focused approach, I think, builds more genuine relationships by leveraging our similarities, such as age and career.
What has your NextGen membership meant to you?
NextGen means going out of your way to build relationships.
What lessons have you learned during the pandemic that you think you will carry over in the long term? The most important thing I learned during the pandemic was the importance of sustaining long distance and long-term relationships. Being secluded from society during the initial phases of lockdowns made me take a step back and really analyze which of my relationships needed more attention, and which I needed to let go.
What do you think are the biggest challenges your industry will face in the next 5 years, and what actions is your business taking to position it for success in the future? I think the biggest challenges Investment Banking will face in the next 5 years is the continued rollover of professional baby boomers, both as bankers and business owners. The baby boomers own the majority of hard and soft assets in the US, and that transfer of wealth, I believe will drastically change investment banking in the lower middle market.
