President & CEO

Nick Turkal, MD, is the President and CEO of Aurora Health Care, one of Wisconsin’s leading integrated health systems and its largest private employer, with more than 31,000 employees.

When Dr. Turkal was appointed CEO in 2006, he began a shift toward a culture that inspired purpose and centered on patients. Aurora employees became caregivers, reflecting the role that each employee has in fulfilling the organization's ultimate purpose.

Dr. Turkal holds true to certain core beliefs that help guide his decisions: stay true to your purpose, actively listen, never become complacent.

In December 2017, it was announced that Aurora Health Care, the largest health system in Wisconsin, and Advocate Health Care Network, the largest health system in Illinois, would combine their operations, creating the 10th-largest nonprofit health system in the country.

The combined system will have annual revenue of $11 billion, employ almost 70,000 people, including more than 3,300 physicians, and operate 27 hospitals.
