Jonathan Zucker - Intrepid Investment Bankers, Head of Capital Markets Group -  MODERATOR

Jonathan is the Head of the Capital Markets Group at Intrepid Investment Bankers. His team advises entrepreneurs and financial sponsors on raising capital throughout the entire capital structure for companies in a diverse set of industries, including consumer, media, technology and business services. Prior to Intrepid, he ran the Los Angeles office for US Capital Partners, a provider of capital raising advisory services to middle-market companies. Previously, Jonathan worked at Credit Suisse and FBR & Co.  and holds a BS in Economics from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania. 

 

Jeffrey B. Schwartz - Corbel Capital Partners, Managing Partner

Jeff is a 13-year private equity veteran with previous investment banking experience, founded Corbel Capital Partners and serves as its Managing Partner. He has worked on investments representing over $1 billion of invested capital. In conjunction with those investments, Jeff has served as a director or observer on the boards of over 15 public and private companies. Prior to founding Corbel, Jeff was a Managing Director at The Gores Group, responsible for leading the negotiation and execution of certain Gores acquisitions and divestitures in the U.S., primarily in the consumer products and retail industry sectors. While at Gores, Jeff led investments into and served on the board of directors of J. Mendel and Big Strike, while deploying over $150 million in capital. Prior to joining Gores, Jeff worked in the Private Equity Group of Ares Management in Los Angeles, where he completed on numerous leveraged buyouts, distressed debt and structured equity investments. While at Ares, Jeff closed 6 platform acquisitions and served on the board of directors of General Nutrition Centers, Nortek, Samsonite, Stream Global Services, WCA Waste, White Energy and Tinnerman Palnut. Prior to joining Ares, Jeff was an investment banker at Lehman Brothers in the financial sponsors group, and prior to that he was in the mergers and acquisitions group at Wasserstein Perella & Co. Jeff holds a B.S. in Economics from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania. 

 

James Stone - PennantPark, Managing Director

James joined PPIA in July 2015 to originate and execute leveraged transactions on behalf of clients based in the Western United States.  Most recently, he was a Managing Director and Head of Financial Sponsor Coverage at Cowen and Company, which he joined in 2012.  James has over 20 years of leveraged finance experience, including Managing Director positions at Gleacher & Company, Macquarie Capital, Imperial Capital, and Credit Suisse.  Prior to joining Credit Suisse, he served as a Vice President in the Financial Sponsor Coverage Group at DLJ and as an Associate in the Corporate Finance Department at BT Securities and BT Alex. Brown.  James holds a BA and an MBA, both from Columbia University.

 

Matt Grimes - Ares Management, Managing Director

Matt is a Managing Director in the Ares Credit Group, where he focuses on the group’s Commercial Finance platform. He is a member of the Ares Credit Group’s Commercial Finance Investment Committee. Prior to joining Ares in 2015, he was a Chief Restructuring Officer at CRG Partners, where he focused on liquidations. Matt holds a B.A. from The University of California, Berkeley in Social Science and an M.B.A. from the University of Southern California in Finance. He is a Certified Professional Accountant.

 

Peter Ma - Colbeck Capital, Managing Director

Peter Ma is a Partner at Colbeck Capital Management, a hybrid lending fund specializing in event-driven and opportunistic value investments. Peter runs the firm’s Los Angeles office and is responsible for sourcing and structuring new investments, leading deal underwriting and capital markets strategy, and managing the portfolio. Previously, at MESA Global (now Houlihan Lokey), he advised media and entertainment companies on mergers and acquisitions, capital raising and strategic financings, with a particular focus on structured transactions. Peter was named to Forbes 30 under 30 in the media category in 2013 and frequently speaks on Technology, Telecom and Media (TMT) panels regarding strategic lending, particularly in film. A graduate of Harvard University, he also serves on the Social Investment Council at Echoing Green, a social impact fund that unleashes next-generation talent to solve the world’s biggest problems through seed funding and access to the private sector. Peter is a member of the Board of Trustees at Woodbury University, one of the oldest institutions of higher education in Southern California with campuses in Burbank/Los Angeles and San Diego.
