There is something about descending below-ground that conjures feelings of mystery and adventure - just ask Alice. In few places is this more true than the underground bar. Secret entrances, darkened staircases, being in the know are all part of the appeal.

There's no better place to enjoy this feeling than Downtown Los Angeles. Early 20th-century architectural gems have been revived right and left since the start of the 21st - and with them the basement bars, dance clubs and jazz lounges that once served the booming city’s movers and shakers. Bank vaults, a power plant and historic speakeasies are being redesigned for the thriving Downtown L.A. nightlife scene. For Downtown L.A.’s finest in subterranean bars, join us at Birds & Bees for incredible DRINKS and FOOD!

If you haven't heard the buzz, Birds & Bees is kind of a big deal. Not just because it serves classic cocktails in a dim den that transports you to the 1950s. Not even because it’s another signifier of downtown L.A.'s culinary renaissance, or because it has a hidden, underground entrance in a random parking lot that makes you feel cool for knowing about it. All these things are true, but what's really remarkable is how faithfully it synthesizes L.A.’s 1940s and ’50s cocktail history with contemporary tastes. The post-Prohibition era sees the best of tiki trends mixed with classic cocktails, all livened with fresh juices and homemade tinctures, and Birds & Bees increases the nostalgia factor with the addition of vermouth, brandy and sherry.

Birds & Bees

Fast forward from turn-of-the-century to the postwar era and you'll find yourself at Birds & Bees, a chic Mid-Century Modern inspired speakeasy. This Downtown L.A. office tower’s bones are left exposed in the steel and concrete interiors, but the furnishings are straight from a mod bachelor pad. Follow the wooden fence alongside the red brick wall at the northwest corner of the parking lot to find the secret entrance, and descend to find an excellent cocktail menu of modernized classics.

FOOD:  catered by B.S. Taqueria street tacos (Broken Spanish) and The Hala Guys.

Los Angeles is a taco city unrivaled in America, and each year the genre grows to meet the insatiable demand of Angelenos across all demographics for the country’s favorite dish. The competition is fierce here, and there are countless celebrated tacos in the City of Angels worthy of accolades that didn’t make the cut. Stretching across a spectrum of institutions, Mexican-American, regional Mexican, Alta California, Tex-Mex, Cal-Mex and beyond, there are essential tacos in Los Angeles and B.S. Taqueria tops the list.  LA is the Silicon Valley of tacos, where leaders in taco innovation like chef Ray Garcia have opened bold start-ups using unconventional ingredients like Garcia’s clam and lardo taco, a rich surf and turf combo. It comes on a blue corn tortilla made from non-GMO heirloom corn and a combination of flavors based in Mexican-American tradition that is 100% Alta Calfornia cuisine.

The Halal Guys are the pioneers of American Halal Food. American Halal Food features a flavor profile that can’t be replicated in any other cuisine format, featuring flawlessly cooked, premium quality Halal meats that are seasoned to perfection and a melting pot of Middle Eastern and Mediterranean flavors that are sure to delight. The Halal Guys is the #3 Most Yelped business in the US.
