South Bay Lakers

The South Bay Lakers are the official NBA G League affiliate of the Los Angeles Lakers. Following a successful run as the Los Angeles D-Fenders, the team has become the South Bay Lakers and has moved into a new home, the UCLA Health Training Center. This $60M center brings fans up close and personal to future stars of the LA Lakers, and is the practice facility for the Los Angeles Lakers organization. Get in on the inaugural season!  Hear how the Lakers responded to debut of their new training facility.

With the goal of aligning closer to its parent club, South Bay has adopted the "Lakers" name while also keeping the purple and gold colors. To maintain its own identity, the club adds the “South Bay blue” color to its uniforms, while its secondary logo features the iconic Manhattan Beach Pier as a tribute to the region the team calls home.

South Bay Lakers/LA D-Fenders History

In July 2006, the Los Angeles Lakers and the Buss family became the first NBA franchise to own an NBA Development League team, the Los Angeles D-Fenders. The D-Fenders are the sole affiliate of the Lakers and are committed to providing the highest quality of emerging talent.

Visit South Bay Lakers Website

In 2017, the Los Angeles D-Fenders became the South Bay Lakers and the the NBA Developmental League became the NBA G League. The NBA G League is the NBA's official minor league which features 26 teams with direct affiliations to NBA teams and is designed to help grow the sport of basketball both domestically and internationally by offering NBA caliber basketball. In fostering the league's connection to the community, its G League teams, players and staff promote youth basketball, support local needs and interests, and assist in educational development. The NBA G League also advances the game of basketball as the research and development arm of the NBA.

NOTE: This is a networking event thus we are unable to register children for the event.  We are in the Executive Suite with the Lakers executives for the evening.
