Tell us about your role/firm.
Cogent Bank was formed in 2018 and is a Florida state-chartered bank. Specialty Lending focuses on asset-based lending, lender finance, and recurring revenue lending. Our $200MM+ portfolio was built from the ground up with transaction sizes ranging from $500M to $15MM. Many clients are based in Florida; however, several are based outside of the state, operating as far north as Buffalo, NY and as far west as Austin, TX.
What are you working on?
Our portfolio doubled in size from $100MM to over $200MM in commitments last year. Along with portfolio growth, we made a couple of key hires in 4Q2022. Our focus for 2023 is continued (but slower) growth. I’m currently working on multiple projects with the team to streamline the underwriting and onboarding process for our smaller opportunities (transactions under $1.5MM). In addition to internal processes, we are focusing on participations as a portfolio growth opportunity.
What do you value most about your ACG membership?
The connections and relationships built with the other members. The willingness of ACG members to share their knowledge and provide mentorship has been critical to my success. I’m grateful to be a part of this community and hope to pass on my experience to young ACG members now and into the future.
