David spent over twenty years in the U.S. Army as a Special Forces Officer (commonly known as the “Green Berets”).  He has led and managed special operations missions in hazardous and complicated environments across the globe. Dave earned numerous awards and decorations throughout his career, a few include three Bronze Stars, one with a “V” device for valor in combat.

David holds a bachelor’s degree from SUNY Oswego and received his Masters in Business Administration from Northwestern University’s Kellogg School of Management.

After leaving the service, Dave spent a year at the biotech firm Amgen, then JP Morgan, and Mangrove Equity Partners. Dave joined the Riverside team in 2022 and leads origination efforts in the Southeast.

David currently lives in Tampa, Florida with his wife and three children.

Colonel (USA, Retired) Patrick J. Mahaney, Jr. completed 32 years of service in the U.S. Army.  A Special Forces officer (Green Beret), he held key leadership positions from the tactical to strategic levels.  Prior to retiring from active duty in October 2017, he served as Director of the Chief of Staff of the Army’s Strategic Studies Group, following assignment as the Army Fellow at the Council on Foreign Relations in New York City (NYC). His service includes nine combat tours, covering jungle, urban, desert and mountain warfare environments, plus extensive operational assignments worldwide. He commanded the U.S. Army’s Asymmetric Warfare Group, a tactical Special Forces battalion and a Special Operations Task Force in Afghanistan.  He served in Special Forces, Civil Affairs, Military Police and Cavalry units, as well as in several U.S. embassies.

Colonel (Ret) Mahaney currently serves as a Senior Advisor (Special Government Employee) in the Defense Innovation Unit (DIU), working with technologists, entrepreneurs, and financiers to identify and develop emerging technologies for national security and public safety applications. He is co-founder and CEO of the National Center for Urban Operations (NCUO), a non-profit based in NYC, and is the Senior Mentor for the Dense Urban Studies Strategic Broadening Seminar, sponsored by the U.S. Army.  He also serves as a mentor with New York University (NYU) Stern School of Business’ Endless Frontier Labs, in the Deep Tech and Digital Tech programs.

Colonel (Ret) Mahaney is a member of the Council on Foreign Relations and was an Adjunct Professor of International and Public Affairs at Columbia University from 2019-2022.  He holds a B.A. from NYU (with honors), and Master’s degrees from Columbia University’s School of International and Public Affairs and from the University of Perugia (Italy).  He is a graduate of the U.S. Army War College Fellowship in Italy and of the Spanish Army’s Staff School (Madrid). His service as a combat commander in Afghanistan is featured in One Hundred Victories: Special Ops and the Future of Warfare (2013), and his published works include chapters in Understanding Urban Warfare (2022), Guaranteeing America’s Security in the Twenty-First Century (2016) and in NATO Defense College’s Forum Paper 14 Complex Operations: NATO at War and on the Margins of War (2010).

Colonel (Ret) Mahaney is a recipient of the N.Y. State Conspicuous Service Cross (2017) and of an Ellis Island Medal of Honor (2018).  An Honorary Battalion Chief of the NYC Fire Department (FDNY) and Trustee of the NYC Fire Museum, he served alongside the FDNY during recovery operations at the World Trade Center in November 2001.  He and his family reside on U.S. Army Garrison-Ft. Hamilton in Brooklyn, NY.

Brock Bosson, Chair of Cahill’s Corporate Governance & Compliance Advisory practice group, is an advisor to global companies and their officers, directors, and board committees, focusing on internal investigations, compliance counseling, white-collar defense, and securities litigation.

Brock regularly represents clients before government agencies in criminal and regulatory investigations and enforcement actions relating to the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act (FCPA), cryptocurrency regulation, securities fraud, financial integrity, trade sanctions, anti-money laundering, and corporate social responsibility matters.  He also has extensive experience conducting internal investigations and assisting both multinational companies and governmental agencies in assessing and enhancing their regulatory compliance programs. He frequently conducts anti-corruption compliance due diligence for companies engaging in mergers & acquisitions in jurisdictions with high corruption risk, and he advises clients in designing and implementing post-acquisition compliance integration plans. Brock’s investigations and work in compliance counseling have covered issues in over 50 countries and across a range of industries, including digital assets, financial services, retail, oil & gas, life sciences, consumer goods, real estate, automotive, and aviation.  He currently represents and advises various digital asset trading exchanges, DeFi wallet providers, investment platforms, and other cryptocurrency projects in enforcement actions and regulatory compliance matters.

He has served as a Term Member of the Council on Foreign Relations.

Before joining Cahill, Brock investigated and prosecuted a range of criminal matters while serving as a Special Assistant U.S. Attorney and military prosecutor in the U.S. Army. He also served as a legal advisor for combat operations and contingency planning, and he was frequently the U.S. government’s primary representative, negotiator, or compliance inspector on matters of international law at events throughout the Middle East.

In 2014, Brock founded Cahill’s Veterans’ New Business Initiative, through which he and many other Cahill attorneys provide pro bono representation and advice to military veterans who are in the early stages of starting small businesses. In 2021, Brock was recognized by Crain’s New York Business as a Notable Veteran Executive, celebrated as a remarkable leader in New York City who has brought the best of his military experience and training to his work.
