Overview

Body
ACG NY Women of Leadership was founded in 2008. While embracing and maintaining the principles and goals of ACG and the NY Chapter, WOL specifically focuses on facilitating connections between women leaders in the deal-making community so that they can share experiences, needs, contacts and overall, help one another succeed. The WOL Networking Soirees is dedicated to providing female leaders a forum to connect and network.

Join us this September for the next WOL Soiree Series event, "A Passion to Perform", where Finance and Fashion unite during NYC's world-famous Fashion Week! "A Passion to Perform", celebrates the interconnection between reality of financial performance and a passion for your art form and skill. For this series we aim to positively impact each artist's practice and encourage them to pursue their passion.

We will begin the evening at the exclusive Zang Toi's, House of Toi
Fashion-Show after Party at the elegant Two E Bar & Lounge followed by a Private Dinner, both located at the glamorous Pierre Hotel.

6PM-8PM | House of Toi Fashion-Show after Party at Two E Bar & Lounge at the Pierre Hotel
8PM - Onward | Private Dinner at Perrine Restaurant held in the Rotunda at the Pierre Hotel

The Fashion-Show after Party will celebrate the House of Toi's latest collection. Since 1989, Malaysian-born Zang Toi has run this independently owned and operated atelier designing creations that are chic and glamorous, always highlighting the beauty of the female form.

The Private Dinner will feature guest speaker,
Ruth Álvarez-DeGolia, Founder and Executive Director of Mercado Global.  For nearly two decades, Mercado Global has empowered rural Latin American women and their families by partnering with them to provide hand-made, sustainable, everyday accessories. During the dinner, there will be an opportunity to experience and purchase a selection of artisan-crafted merchandise designed in partnership with fashion brands, with proceeds directly benefiting indigenous women and their families throughout Central America.

We look forward to this fashionably fun and purposeful evening celebrating and supporting women of leadership within the Middle Market community and beyond.

Ruth Álvarez-DeGolia

Mercado Global
Founder and Executive Director

From overseeing the organization’s growth from a small nonprofit working with a dozen Indigenous women artisans in Guatemala’s highlands, to its recognition as an innovator in social enterprise partnering with hundreds of artisans, Ruth is a pioneer in the field of ethical fashion.

By building a model that connects some of the communities in rural Latin America that have been most impacted by systemic racism and misogyny, Ruth’s vision for Mercado Global has created sustainable income opportunities for Indigenous women with international retailers including, Stitch Fix, Levi’s®, Bloomingdale’s, and Shopbop. Under her leadership, Mercado Global has led efforts to mainstream fair trade sourcing in the international fashion industry and supported Indigenous women across the Americas in gaining income and empowerment through access to the international market.

Ruth has been recognized for her role in founding and supporting a variety of programs and organizations related to international development and poverty alleviation. She has received honors for her academic work on the impact of globalization on political and economic development in Latin America, including the William H. Orrick prize at Yale University. Ruth was named among the “World’s Best Emerging Social Entrepreneurs” by Echoing Green and appeared on the cover of Newsweek as one of the “15 People Who Make America Great.” Ruth has also spoken at the United Nations, the Clinton Global Initiative, the Global Summit for Women, and the U.S. Department of Labor.
