Why You Should Attend:

Join ACG WiT Cleveland to network, socialize, learn a new skill (or sharpen an old, not often used skill?!), and, most importantly, provide much-needed assistance to The Haven Home, an overflow shelter for homeless women and children.

The event will be held at The Creative Clubhouse, an incubator for female start-ups founded by the entrepreneur behind the Cleveland Flea, mastermind of Indie Foundry, and all-around "Girl Boss" Stephanie Sheldon

Participants will receive sewing instruction from Valerie Mayen and the team from her label Yellowcake Shop, as we work together to create beautiful and functional window dressings for the residents of The Haven Home. Yellowcake products will also be available that evening for purchase or special order, and shoppers will receive a special discount from Yellowcake in exchange for donated items to The Haven Home.

Items that are in highest demand at the home include:

  • New socks and undergarments for women and children.
  • Warm layers of clothing (long johns).
  • Gently used clothing.
  • Towels.
  • Single-use sized personal hygiene items.

Finally, participants will have the opportunity to "Adopt-a-Window" for $15, which covers the cost of the materials to create a window dressing for The Haven Home.

No previous skill or experience is required, and all materials will be provided. After you register, Julia Zettl will be following up to ask about your sewing experience, and if you can bring a sewing machine to use for the event to make sure you have the best learning experience possible with Valerie and her team.
